The Hero Nextdoor Grant helps first veterans, police officers, first responders, teachers, and healthcare workers reduce out-of-pocket costs when buying a home. The Hero Nextdoor Grant is in addition to the traditional Hero Nextdoor Program.
Whether it’s your first home or your forever home, this grant is designed to make homeownership more affordable for the heroes who serve our communities.
What is the Hero Nextdoor Grant?
The Hero Nextdoor Grant is funded by our vetted professionals through Hero Nextdoor transactions, as well as outside donations. The Grants are awarded on an application basis, and the applications are reviewed and selected by the Board of Directors.
These grants are awarded to heroes in the following professions:
Availability and amount of the grants is subject to change based on funding and need. We currently target $2,500 per awarded grant.
How Applications Are Reviewed
Hero Nextdoor Grants are not awarded based on income, credit score, or home price. Instead, our mission is to empower heroes by promoting affordable homeownership and fostering financial wellness. We focus on recognizing and supporting individuals who have made a meaningful impact through their service.
Applications are reviewed and prioritized based on:
- Service to the United States or local communities
- Need for Housing Support (such as first time buyers, cost-burdened renters, relocation or PCS, etc.)
- Additional Contributions or Sacrifices (such as years of service, disaster response, teaching underserved areas, involvement in community programs, etc.)
We aim to direct grant funding toward heroes who have gone above and beyond, especially those who may face unique challenges to homeownership.
Every eligible hero deserves support. While funding is limited, we do our best to maximize impact and reward those making a difference.
What the Hero Nextdoor Grant Can Help Cover
This is a true grant, meaning it does not need to be repaid. The Grant can be combined with any type of home purchase mortgage (including down payment assistance programs), or even stacked on top of other grants. It can used towards:
- Down Payment
- Closing Costs – already minimized through Hero Nextdoor
- Interest Rate Buydowns
This grant is in addition to the Hero Nextdoor program. You’ll receive all of the normal Hero Nextdoor benefits and savings.
Who Qualifies?
Eligibility is based on your profession, not income. You must use the Hero Nextdoor program to qualify for the grant, and use our vetted mortgage and real estate professionals.

- Apply for the Hero Nextdoor Grant below
- You must be Preapproved with one of our Vetted Mortgage Professionals.
- Grant Selection Process – Our vetted professionals know what grants are available and when we review applications.
- We may reach out with additional questions regarding your Grant Application.
- Grant Award – You, your Realtor, and your Loan Officer will be notified of your Award. The funds will be wired to the title company that handles your transaction and disbursed at closing.
- The Reservation is valid for 90 days. If you have not gone under contract within that time, it will go back into the grant fund, and you’ll need to reapply.
